The English Exam is a 90-minute exam consisting of 4 sections with different tasks. Below there is given a description of each section with examples:

Overview

Section 1

In this section you will have to demonstrate your comprehension of audio material. There are 2 parts with 5 questions in each one. First part is dialogue and test type is multiple choice. You will have to choose the correct answer and circle it.

Second part of listening is lecture/monologue and the test type is filling the gaps with necessary information.

Recommended time: 15 minutes

Section 2

Use of English (UoE). You will have to demonstrate your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary filling in gaps in texts. The test type is multiple choice. You will have to choose the correct answer and circle it.

                             Example: The girl moved forward to get a … view of the cottage.

Recommended time: 15 minutes

Section 3

Reading . You will have to demonstrate your ability to identify key information in 3 texts. The following test types will be used: sentence completion, True or False and multiple matching. NB In some tasks you will have to use ONLY the stated number of words in your answers. If you use more words, answers will be marked as incorrect.

Recommended time: 20 minutes.

Section 4

Writing. The section has 1 task. In this task you are required to write an essay on the topic of general interest. The style of writing is formal. You will have to write approximately 200-250 words.

Recommended time: 40 minutes.

The time to transfer your answers to an Answer sheet. Is included in this time.
