Foundations of Business: Marketing, Management, and Practical Skills

Foundation Programme in Business is designed for students interested in the areas of information technology, digital business and marketing. The programme puts a specific emphasis on development of mathematical, language and business-related knowledge and skills preparing students for further undergraduate studies in the area of IT and digital business.  

In addition to subject-specific knowledge and skills, students are guided to develop a range of transferable skills, thus building up a foundation for success in further undergraduate studies.

Overview

The programme is structured around the  areas of Business, Marketing, the English Language and Mathematics. Throughout the programme you will learn about business management practices, core marketing theory, quantitative data analysis as well as develop transferable skills including critical thinking, independent learning, working in groups, essay writing, presentation and communication skills.

Well-rounded approach in curriculum will allow you to embark on Level 4 study in an appropriate undergraduate discipline, confident that you have developed the skills and chosen the most relevant subject area(s) to specialise in, which will allow you to perform strongly at degree level and inform your career choices.

Entry Requirements

Hold a recognized certificate of the English Language competence:

  • to get 40% or more marks in IDU ICAT English examination; OR
  • IELTS 5.0 with a minimum of 5.0 in a writing component; OR
  • other language proficiency certificate like CEFR, TOEFL, DUOLINGO, LINGUASKILL, TOEIC
  • Certificate of Complete Secondary Education (11 year school attestate, College diploma, Lyceum Diploma for students from Uzbekistan or their international equivalents, i.e. GCSE);
  • Be 17 years of age at the start of the academic year of enrollment.

In the first semester, students will take the three core modules on Business English, Introduction to Marketing and Algebra. This will build a foundation of core skills and knowledge for further modules taught during the second semester on the programme. All modules on the programme are core with 4 contact hours a week for each discipline and further 12 hours a week allocated for assessment, independent learning and peer learning.

Teaching and Learning Strategy

Students will engage in a range of learning activities which will include lectures, tutorials, workshops, online forums, and in-class discussions. The learning activities will develop distinctive attributes that will make students stand out and enhance their skills for undergraduate studies. These skills will be embedded into the curriculum throughout the programme.

Digitally Literacy: All graduates will be users of information and communication technologies. However, on your further undergraduate course you will develop your skills to encompass literacy more fully such as learning how to find information and how to take best advantage of digital resources and the Internet to make you effective in the Information Age.

Knowledgeable and Enterprising: Throughout your course you will start building up your professional and employability skills. You will constantly nurture your own intellectual curiosity. The tools, methodologies and techniques that you will learn have been carefully selected to prepare you with the skills that are needed to succeed in undergraduate studies.

Assessment Methods

The assessment strategy of the programme is based on the criterion-referenced assessment concept that is designed to assess changes in performance, for the purpose of seeing what and how well material has been learned. The purpose of the assessment is to test the achievement of the learning outcomes of each module and thus learning outcomes of the programme.

At International Digital University, a variety of modes of assessment will be used to support and test students’ learning and progress and to help them develop capabilities that are valued beyond their university studies. The programme may include a variety of assessment activities:

  • Written examinations (including online examinations, open/closed/seen examinations, and quizzes)
  • Coursework (for example, essays, reports, portfolios, project proposals and briefs, CVs, and poster presentations)
  • Practical assessments (for example, oral and video presentations, laboratory work, performances, practical skills assessment)

Academic Calendar

The programme is delivered in two 12-week long semesters. At the end of each semester students will have a consolidation week and an assessment week, in some cases followed by a short break.

IDU is running a three semester Academic year with September, January and May semesters, where the month indicates the beginning of each semester. Depending on the semester of entry your learning journey will last for the two consecutive semesters.

A Foundation Programme in Business is a qualification, which can lead to further undergraduate degree studies in a wide range of universities across the country and abroad.
